When your Trezor arrives, taking a few minutes to inspect the packaging before you plug anything in is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your funds. Trezor devices ship with tamper-evident seals and no pre-configured software, so any signs of prior use are an immediate red flag. This guide walks you through everything you should find in the box and how to confirm your device is genuine before you get started.

In the Box

Every Trezor ships with a small set of items — nothing more, nothing less. If anything is missing or you find something unexpected, contact Trezor support before proceeding.
  • Trezor device — your Model One or Model T hardware wallet
  • USB cable — Micro-USB (Model One) or USB-C (Model T) for connecting to your computer
  • Recovery seed card(s) — blank card(s) for writing down your seed phrase during setup
  • Getting started leaflet — a brief printed guide directing you to trezor.io/start
There are no stickers, promotional items, or pre-written recovery cards included. If your box contains a card with words already printed on it, treat this as a serious security issue.

Verify the Holographic Seal

Trezor packages are sealed with a holographic sticker that is designed to show visible damage if the box has been opened. Before touching the device, inspect this seal carefully.
  • Hold the box up to a light source and tilt it at different angles — the hologram should shift color and display the Trezor logo clearly.
  • Look for any tearing, bubbling, peeling edges, or residue around the seal. A tampered sticker will rarely re-adhere cleanly.
  • Check that the seal covers the box seam completely with no gaps.
Keep in mind that holographic seals are a helpful first indicator, not a foolproof guarantee. The most reliable authenticity check happens inside Trezor Suite during the onboarding flow, where the software cryptographically verifies your device’s firmware and bootloader.

First Power-On

Connect your Trezor to your computer using the included USB cable. On a genuine, factory-fresh device, the first boot experience is deliberately minimal.
  • The Trezor logo appears on the screen, followed by a welcome message.
  • You will be prompted to visit trezor.io/start to continue setup through Trezor Suite.
  • No wallet exists yet — the device has no PIN, no seed phrase, and no stored keys.
The device will not ask you for a password, show you a list of words, or display a balance of any kind. If it does any of these things, stop immediately.
If your device arrives with a PIN already set, displays a recovery seed phrase on first boot, or shows any existing wallet balance, do not use it. This is a strong indicator that the device has been tampered with or is counterfeit. Contact Trezor Support immediately and do not enter any funds.
