Restoring your Trezor wallet lets you regain full access to your funds whenever you get a new device, replace a damaged one, or start fresh after a factory reset. As long as you have your recovery seed phrase, your crypto is never lost — the seed is the master key to your wallet, independent of any single device.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following ready before you start the recovery process:
  • Your complete recovery seed — all 12 or 24 words (Standard Backup), or all 20-word shares (Shamir Backup), in the correct order, exactly as you wrote them down
  • A new or wiped Trezor device — the device must be in its initial setup state with no existing wallet loaded
  • Trezor Suite installed — download the latest version from suite.trezor.io if you haven’t already
Never enter your seed words into any website, email, or software other than the official Trezor device screen during recovery. Phishing scams commonly impersonate this step. Your seed words should only ever be entered directly on your physical Trezor device — never on your computer or phone.

Restore Your Wallet

1

Connect your Trezor to Trezor Suite

Plug your new or wiped Trezor into your computer using the provided USB cable. Trezor Suite will detect the device and launch the setup wizard automatically.
2

Select 'Recover wallet' in the setup wizard

On the welcome screen, choose Recover wallet rather than creating a new one. This tells the device to restore an existing wallet from a seed phrase instead of generating fresh keys.
3

Choose your seed length

Select the number of words in your recovery seed — 12 or 24 for a Standard Backup, or 20 for each Shamir Backup share. This must match the length of the seed phrase you originally created. If you’re unsure, check your written backup.
4

Choose your recovery type

Select the recovery method that matches how your original wallet was created:
  • Standard Recovery — for a regular single-seed backup (most common)
  • Advanced Recovery (Shamir) — for wallets protected by Shamir Backup, where multiple seed shares must be combined to restore access
5

Enter your seed words on the device

Follow the prompts on the Trezor device screen to enter each word of your recovery seed in the order shown. Words are entered directly on the device using its buttons or touchscreen — not typed into Trezor Suite on your computer. This keeps your seed offline and protected from screen-capture malware.
6

Set a new PIN

Once your seed is verified, the device will prompt you to set a new PIN. Choose a PIN you can remember but that others cannot easily guess. You’ll confirm it twice on the device screen.
7

Recovery complete

Your Trezor is now restored. Trezor Suite will begin syncing with the blockchain to reload your accounts, balances, and transaction history.
After recovery, your full transaction history and balances appear once Trezor Suite syncs with the blockchain. This can take a few minutes depending on your internet connection and the number of accounts you hold. Give it time before assuming anything is missing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Recovery seeds are device-agnostic and fully portable across all Trezor models. You can restore a wallet originally created on a Trezor Model One onto a Trezor Model T, or vice versa. The seed encodes your keys, not the device, so the hardware model doesn’t matter.
Partial seed recovery is not possible. All words from your original seed phrase are required to restore your wallet. If any words are missing or illegible, you will not be able to complete the recovery process. This is why storing your seed phrase safely and completely from the moment you create a wallet is so important.
Entering your seed words on the device typically takes 5–10 minutes, depending on how quickly you can locate and input each word. After that, Trezor Suite needs additional time to sync your accounts with the blockchain — usually a few minutes, though it can take longer if you have many accounts or a slow connection.
